Alabama made the extraordinary decision to use helicopters to dry the ground at Bryant-Denny Stadium, ahead of Crimson Tide's first-ranked home game against rival Auburn on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, Sports Director Greg Byrne tweeted a photo of the "drying" process, which included two helicopters flying into the stadium and hovering over the surface of the grass.

The ground in Tuscaloosa was in a bad state a week earlier when Alabama hosted The Citadel, which caused several players to lose their footing. On Wednesday, coach Nick Saban said that a plan had been put in place to improve conditions.
It rained in most of central Alabama on Friday night, plunging the field further.
"I'm sure they will do everything they can," said Saban. "But I also think that players have to learn to play in these conditions and I have played on much worse terrain than that."
Alabama has survived this match against the citadel. After being tied at halftime, the tide went wide and won 50-17.
A win on Saturday's Auburn would give Alabama an undefeated regular season. The next weekend, the Tide will face Georgia in the SEC championship game in Atlanta.
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta – a dome – is well known to both teams. In January, they played in the national college football championship with the playoffs. Alabama won in overtime on a pass from Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith.
