Mr. Baldwin leaving the New York Police Station

American actor Alec Baldwin was charged with assault in New York after supposedly hitting a man during a fight for a parking spot.

He left a police station in the city after being ordered to appear in court on November 26.

This is not the first time Mr. Baldwin, 60 years old, comes up against the law. In 2014, he was arrested for disorderly conduct.

The actor starred in the movie Hunt for Red October and more recently in the television series 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live.

The alleged altercation allegedly took place in West Village Manhattan on Friday.

Police told the US media that the actor had claimed that his family member was holding a seat for his Cadillac Escalade SUV when a man driving a Saab break was rushed to pick him up.

Police said the two men were arguing before Mr. Baldwin would look into the 49-year-old man, who was taken to the hospital with jaw pain.

The actor was charged with manslaughter and harassment.

US President Donald Trump, whom Mr. Baldwin featured on the Saturday Night Live TV show, said about his arrest: "I wish him good luck."

Mr. Baldwin has already made headlines for his anger issues.

The New York police arrested him in May 2014 after surprising him riding a bicycle in a traffic jam, before being belligerent in swearing at the police.

He was summoned for violating the bike and driving disorderly.

Mr. Baldwin tweeted angrily about the incident, calling the city of New York "a mishandled carnival of stupidity" and naming the officer who had arrested him.

In 2013, he was suspended from his MSNBC television show Up Late for using an anti-gay insult during a dispute with a photographer in New York.

The actor then apologized, saying that he "did not intend to hurt or offend anyone" with his choice of words.

Following the incident, his daughter, Ireland, also defended him on Twitter, claiming that "for someone who's fought against anger management, my dad has tremendously grown up".

Mr. Baldwin and his daughter had a tense relationship in the past.

In 2007, he publicly apologized for treating his 11-year-old "rude and thoughtless little pig" in a voice message after the message became viral online.

In 2011, Mr. Baldwin was fired from a robbery after he refused to turn off his phone. The actor said that he was playing at Words with Friends.

His last contact with the law is not the first case involving Mr. Baldwin striking anyone.

In 1995, he was acquitted of battery charge for corruption offense for hitting a photographer in self-defense.
