"Danger!" He has started his 35th season and, like the rest of the world, has highlighted problems that threaten to divide this great country.

As is Is Alex Trebek's new beard magical or misplaced?

Trebek unveiled the new look on Twitter and followed with a clumsy video on the "Jeopardy!" Instagram page before the first episode of Monday with the caption, "It's time to embark on a magical journey in Season 35!"

Trebek opened the first show Monday by tackling the problem.

"No need to know how I spent my summer vacation," he joked. "Things have a little slipped."

"Let's hope it will not be a distraction for our players," he added.

Oh, that's an Alex distraction. The kind of distraction that America needs now. Trebek even won his own #Trebeard hashtag.

The beard debate has raged, peacefully so far, with a poll on Twitter that assesses fans' real feelings – "to barber or not to bear".

Currently, beards have it in the poll, with 67% of follicles and 33% of more than 7,000 votes.

Trebek's facial hair has long been a subject of respect and fascination for the whole world. In 2014, for the 30th anniversary of the show, Trebek shocked fans by returning to his famous mustache look for the first time in 13 years.

For years, his mustache was a marvel to see.

But Trebek had returned to the shaved look until now. The current growth has certainly gained respect. So beard on Alex, beard.
