Australians in the South should think twice about consuming alfalfa sprouts from a company in Adelaide, because salmonella poisoning has made eight people sick within a month.
A series of Sunshine Sprouts sprouts were recalled after eight people contracted salmonella last month, the state health organization warned Sunday.
SA Health Acting Executive Director Chris Lease said 116 alfalfa sprout products had been sampled, with two cases reporting eating them, and Sunday's results showed Salmonella in three samples.
"A number of Sunshine Sprouts alfalfa sprouts have already been voluntarily recalled and we advise all those who purchased the affected products not to eat them and return them to pay for them or throw them away," Dr. Lease m & # 39 said.
"In salmonella cases, a common food source is not often identified, but testing of the retail product has confirmed its presence in various alfalfa sprouts.
"We are working closely with the producer and suppliers as we continue to investigate."
The products are sold at Coles, Foodland, IGA and the fruits and vegetables and those recalled include alfalfa sprouts with broccoli, garlic, mustard, onion and radish.
People can experience symptoms between six and 72 hours after exposure and last up to seven days, including fever, diarrhea, vomiting and cramps to headaches.
