The sudden and unexplained closure of the FBI of the National Solar Observatory (NSO) of Sunspot, New Mexico, has prompted theories as to the reason for being police.
The observatory was closed on 6 September and more than a week later, with no sign of reopening, the authorities still have no room for maneuver.
The Sunspot Post Office was closed until further notice with a spokesman for the US Postal Service, telling ABC 7: "We were told on September 6 that we would be evacuated to the surrounding area.
"We were just told to get out of the area, we stay suspended until we are allowed to come in."
Otero County Sheriff Benny House said, "The FBI is refusing to tell us what's going on. We have people there (at Sunspot) who have asked us to wait while they are evacuated.
"No one would really explain why. The FBI was up there. What was their purpose, no one will say. "
A spokeswoman for the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), who runs the observatory, said that the evacuation was due to a "security problem."
"It was our decision to evacuate the facilities."
With the wrapped closure of mystery, the conspiracy theorists gave their two cents.
Some believe that the solar observatory may have broken a UFO while they were taking pictures of the sun.
The popular SecureTeam 10 YouTube channel said, "Whether it's some kind of machine or gear as they take pictures of the sun, I do not know.
"Theories abound that there might be some sort of extraterrestrial vessel or object, or massive solar flare, or none at all; We do not know.
"But there is certainly something to be done about it.
"Did this observatory capture anything that they were not supposed to capture?"
UFO theory quickly gained popularity, with a YouTube user commenting on the video saying, "Of course, they will close it, they caught something that they were not supposed to see. Whether it's a government satellite or a UFO, they'll erase everything. "
Other users were not so convinced, one of them saying, "I seriously doubt that this event is related to the space, there are thousands of telescopes in the world and dozens of solar observatories.
"This one station will not be the only one to see anything. It's something else happening around the city.
