Tuesday is election day. You may still have questions. When can you vote? What do you need to vote? Can you vote if you have not registered yet?

To make sure you go to the polls and your vote is counted – no excuses! – here is our guide for everything you need to know in your state. Keep in mind that, regardless of polling date, state laws require that all people waiting to vote. Most states also have laws requiring employers to let you take the time to vote, which we have also noted here.
How to find my polling place?
To find your polling place in any state:
- Open a web browser for Vote.org.
- Enter your address and click Go.

Alabama
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must present a valid photo ID. Employees are allowed to take one hour of unpaid leave to vote, but must also provide "reasonable notice" before doing so, and employers are allowed to determine the time that employees can take. Voter registration ended on October 22nd.
Alaska
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. Voters are required to show their ID, but they do not have to include a photo. Employees are allowed to take paid leave to vote as long as necessary, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work to vote. Registration completed October 7th.
Arizona
Polling stations are open from 6am to 7pm. Voters must present a photo ID with name and registered address, or two forms of photo ID with no name and address. Voters can take up to three paid hours to vote, unless they have at least three hours available before or after work to vote. Employees must give notice before polling day and employers can set off hours. The registration ended on October 9th.
Arkansas
The polling stations are open from 7:30 to 19:30. Voters may present a photo ID or a provisional ballot (a ballot containing votes that will be counted once the election officers have verified their eligibility) after signing a sworn statement confirming their identity. Employees can leave as long as necessary to vote, but will not be paid. The registration ended on October 9th.
California
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. There is no voter identification requirement, but voters for the first time might be asked to provide their identity. Employees can take up to two hours paid at the beginning or end of a shift and it is suggested to give them at least two days notice. Voters can register on polling day.
Colorado
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must provide a piece of identity, but it is not necessary to include a photo. Employees can take up to two paid hours, unless they have at least three hours available before or after work to vote, and they must give notice before polling day. Voters can register on polling day.
Connecticut
Polling stations are open from 6am to 8pm. Voters must provide a piece of identity, but it is not necessary to include a photo. There is no law on leave to vote. Voters can register on polling day.
Delaware
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. Voters must provide a piece of identity, but it is not necessary to include a photo. There is no law on holidays. The registration has ended on October 13th.
Florida
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must show photo ID and signature, or a second form of ID if they do not have a signature. There is no law on holidays. Registration closed on October 9th.
Georgia
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must provide a photo ID. Employees can take up to two hours of unpaid time, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work to vote, and they must give "reasonable" notice. Employers can determine off-peak hours. The registration ended on October 9th.
Hawaii
Polling stations are open from 7am to 6pm. Voters must provide a piece of identity, but it is not necessary to include a photo. Employees can take up to two hours paid, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work to vote. Voters can register on polling day.
Idaho
The polls are open from 8:00 to 20:00. Voters must present a government-issued photo ID or sign an affidavit. There is no law on holidays. Voters can register on polling day.
Illinois
Polling stations are open from 6am to 7pm. There is no voter identification requirement, but voters for the first time might be asked to provide their identity. Indiana

Kansas
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must present a photo ID issued by the government. Employees can take up to two hours paid, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work, and employers can determine hours off work. The registration ended on October 16th.
Kentucky
Polling stations are open from 6am to 6pm. Voters must present a piece of identification, but this must include a photo. Employees can take up to four hours of unpaid time, but they must give notice before polling day, and employers can determine hours off. The registration ended on October 9th.
Louisiana
Polling stations are open from 6am to 8pm. Voters must present a photo ID with name and signature. They may also provide a pay check, a utility bill or other government document, including his name and address, in addition to signing an affidavit. There is no law on holidays. The registration ended on October 16th.
Maine
Polling stations are open from 6am to 8pm. No voter identification is required except for registered voters on polling day. There is no law on holidays. Voters can register on polling day with a piece of identification and proof of residence.
Maryland
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. There is no voter identification requirement, but new registered voters by mail must present a piece of identification. Employees can take up to two hours paid, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work. They must give notice before polling day and show the proof of the vote, and employers can determine off-peak hours. The registration ended on October 16th.
Massachusetts
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. There is no voter identification requirement, but new registered voters by mail must present a piece of identification. Employees in the manufacturing, mechanical and mercantile industries only, may leave the two hours following the opening of the poll, without remuneration, and they must make the request. The registration ended on October 17th.
Michigan
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. Voters must present a photo ID or sign an affidavit stating that they have no photo ID. There is no law on holidays. The registration ended on October 9th.
Minnesota
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. There is no requirement of voter identification. Employees can take paid leave as long as necessary to vote. Voters can register on polling day.
Mississippi
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must present a piece of photo ID. Employees can leave as long as necessary to vote, although they are not paid to do so. The registration ended on October 9th.
Missouri
Polling stations are open from 6am to 7pm. Voters are invited to show their ID, but this one does not have to include a photo and voters without a piece of ID can vote on a provisional basis. Employees can take up to three paid hours to vote, unless they have at least three hours available before or after work. Montana
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. Voters must present a piece of identity, but it is not necessary to include a photo. There is no law on holidays. Voters can register on polling day.
Nebraska
For the part of the state that is on the central hour (CT), the polls are open from 8 am to 8 pm. For the part of the state on Mountain Time (MT), polling stations are open from 7 am to 7 pm. There is no voter identification requirement, but voters for the first time might be asked to provide their identity. Employees can take up to two hours paid to vote, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work. They can give notice before or on polling day, and employers can determine off-peak hours. The registration ended on October 26th.
Nevada
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must sign an electoral register at the polls, which is compared to the signature of the original voter's application or to an ID issued by the government. The law on holidays depends on the place of work of the elector in relation to his place of voting. Voters who work less than three kilometers from their polling station can take up to one hour paid. voters who work between two and ten miles from their polling station can take up to two hours paid; and voters who work more than 10 miles from their polling station can take up to three hours paid. New Hampshire
Polling station hours vary by municipality. Voters can view the hours of their polling station on the Secretary of State's website. Voters must present a piece of photo ID or, if they can not, a voting staff member will take a photo of the voter and attach it to an affidavit that the voter has. elector will have to sign. There is no leave law, but employees can request a vote by mail if they have to be at work or go to work during polling hours. Voters can register on polling day.
New Jersey
Polling stations are open from 6am to 8pm. Voters must present their identity only if they have not provided it when they register. There is no law on holidays. The registration ended on October 16th.
New Mexico
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must show their ID if they did not provide it when they register by mail. Employees can take up to two hours paid to vote, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work, and employers can determine hours off work. The registration ended on October 9th.
New York
Polling stations are open from 06:00 to 21:00. There is no requirement of voter identification. Employees can take up to two hours paid to vote, unless they have at least four hours available before or after work. Employees must give two to ten days' notice prior to polling day and employers can determine closing hours. The registration has ended on October 12th.
North Carolina
The polling stations are open from 6:30 to 19:30. Only new electors registered by mail must present a piece of identity or vote on a provisional basis. There is no law on holidays. The registration ended on November 3.
North Dakota
Polls can open between 7 am and 9 am and close between 7 pm and 7 pm and at 9 pm, although offices with less than 75 votes in the last general election may open at noon. Use the Secretary of State's website to find the hours for your polling place. Voters must present a piece of identification with name, address and date of birth. There is no law on holidays. North Dakota does not have a registration process, so all eligible residents can vote on polling day.
Ohio
The polling stations are open from 6:30 to 19:30. Voters must provide their full name, their current address and their identification number, although it is not necessary to include a photo. Voters without valid ID can provide the driver's license number, the state identification number or the last four digits of the Social Security number to be able to vote. Voters can leave as long as necessary to vote, but only salaried employees will be paid. The registration ended on October 9th.
Oklahoma
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must provide government-issued photo identification or a voter ID card. Voters who have neither can vote by provisional ballot after signing an affidavit. Employees can take up to two hours paid to vote, but may take additional "adequate" time if necessary. Employees must give notice one day before polling day and provide proof of voting. Employers can determine closing hours. The registration has ended on October 12th.
Oregon
There are no laws on polling hours or holidays, because all votes are by mail. Voters must provide a driver's license number or national ID card before voting by mail. The registration ended on October 16th.
Pennsylvania
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. First-time voters who use a new polling place for the first time must present a piece of identification, but no photo is required. Voters without a piece of identification can vote with the help of a provisional ballot. There is no law on holidays. The registration ended on October 9th.
Rhode Island
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. Voters must show a photo ID, but they can vote without their photo if their signature matches the one that is recorded. There is no law on holidays. Registration completed October 7th.
Caroline from the south
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must present a piece of photo ID. They can get one for free from a registration desk by indicating their name, date of birth and last four digits of the social security number. There is no law on free time to vote, but employees can request a vote by mail if they have to be at work or go to work during voting hours. The registration ended on October 17th.
South Dakota
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must present a photo ID or sign an affidavit confirming the identity. Employees can take up to two hours paid to vote, unless they have at least two hours available before or after work, and employers can determine hours off work. Registrations ended on October 22nd.
Tennessee
Polling stations are open from 7am to 9am, depending on the county; The Secretary of State's website contains a guide on the opening hours of each county's polling stations. For the central hour portion of the state, the polls close at 7 pm For the part on the hour is (ET), the polls close at 20:00. Voters must submit an elector ID issued by the government. Employees can take up to three paid hours to vote, unless they have at least three hours available before or after work. Employees are required to provide notice before noon on polling day and employers can determine closing hours. Registration completed October 7th.
Texas
Polling stations are open from 7am to 7pm. Voters must present a photo ID, but voters who say they can not get an ID may submit an ID other than a photo and fill in a photo ID. reasonable incident statement "to be able to vote regularly. Utah

Virginia
Polling stations are open from 6am to 7pm. Voters must present a photo ID or a provisional ballot. There is no law on holidays. Registration ended on October 15th.
State of Washington
There is no polling time, leave law, or voter identification requirement because all votes are mailed. Registration ended on October 29th.
Washington DC.
The polls are open from 7:00 to 20:00. There is no voter identification requirement, but first-time voters who have not provided evidence of residence at the time of the election. registration by mail must provide proof of residency. West Virginia
