Even after his death, the philanthropic initiatives of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen continue to manifest themselves.

Today, Paul G. Allen Philanthropies and its consortium of partners unveiled Allen Coral Atlas, a database of satellite images and environmental data to map and monitor the world's coral reefs with details unprecedented.

The atlas is based on a global mosaic of satellite imagery acquired last year by Planet's constellation of earth imaging satellites. The images document coral reefs at a resolution of 4 meters (13 feet) per pixel.
