YORK BEACH, Maine – More than 350 residents of the York County area participated in Saturday's fight against Alzheimer's disease in the Maine Beaches area.
The walk took place at York Beach Ball Field.
Fundraising for the Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease continues through the end of the calendar year and donations can be made to a team or individual participant at alz.org/walk.
In Maine alone, more than 28,000 people live with the disease and 69,000 caregivers provide unpaid care. In the United States, more than 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth leading cause of death and the only one of the top 10 causes that can not be cured, prevented or even slowed down. In addition, more than 15 million family members and friends provide care for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
The Alzheimer's Association to End Alzheimer's Disease is the world's largest advocacy and funding event for Alzheimer's care, support and research. For more information, visit alz.org.
