Alzheimer's Walk set for Lewiston

LEWISTON – The Alzheimer's Association invites locals in the Lewiston area to join the fight to end Alzheimer's by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease in the region of lakes and mountains.

It will be held on Saturday, September 15th at Simard-Payne Memorial Park, 46 Beech Street

More than 400 Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a 2.5-mile walk to learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical research, and support programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society. . Walk participants will also participate in a tribute ceremony to honor people affected by Alzheimer's disease.

"The Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease is a fun, family-friendly social event that helps us raise awareness and fundraise to one day realize our vision of a world without Alzheimer's," said Executive Director Laurie Trenholm . "It's an uplifting and inspiring day that shows support for people with Alzheimer's disease and sends a strong message of hope for answers to this disease and, ultimately, a cure."

More than 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and the only one of the top 10 causes that can not be cured, prevented or even slowed down. In addition, more than 15 million family members and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia in the United States.

People can register as a team captain, join a team or register to walk as an individual on alz.org/walk.
