After opening the American Music Awards with a fiery performance of her song "I Did Something Bad," the Grammy winner won the biggest prize of the evening: the artist of the year.

Swift continued: "I have always voted and will always vote according to the candidate who will protect and defend the human rights we all deserve in this country. I believe in the struggle for LGBTQ rights and for the fact that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is FALSE. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, disgusting and widespread. "
After explaining why she was voting for Phil Bredesen instead of Representative Marsha Blackburn for the Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives, Swift has launched a call for action to his fans.
"So many intelligent, thoughtful and self-possessed people have turned 18 in the last two years and now have the right and the privilege to make their vote count," she said.
