Amanda Knox, whose legal drama has seized the world after being accused of murder in Italy, is engaged to her long-time boyfriend.

Knox and his fiancé, Christopher Robinson, have been together for three years and announced their engagement in a video posted on social media Friday.

The proposal took place at their home in Seattle and featured an alien theme. It all starts with Knox going outside after hearing strange noises and discovering what looks like a meteorite whose blue light shines in the garden.

While Knox laughs nervously and asks what's going on, she finds a tablet with a glimpse of their love story.

"I thought about it, but it's already happened in the future," says Robinson in the video. "It's happening now. I do not have a ring, but I have a big rock. Will you stay with me until the last star of the last galaxy goes out and even after? Amanda Marie Knox, do you want to marry me?

She says yes and they kiss, to the sound of futuristic science fiction music.

The couple met when Knox examined Robinson's novel for a local magazine. Their engagement comes a decade after Knox was accused of killing his British roommate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007 while they were studying abroad in Perugia, Italy.

Knox and his boyfriend of the time, Italian Raffaele Sollecito, were convicted of murder. Sollecito and Knox were both convicted in 2009 and sentenced to long prison terms.

They spent about four years in Italian jails but an appellate court quashed their convictions in October 2011, citing a lack of evidence against them, and both were released.
