Leaving the past behind. Amanda Knox, who was exonerated from the murder of roommate Meredith Kercher in 2015 after being sentenced twice for the crime, is betrothed to her longtime boyfriend Christopher Robinson.

Knox, 31, shared the unconventional proposal, which had been in preparation for over a year, on Instagram on Friday, Nov. 16, with an excerpt of a full YouTube video. "It was just your average Sunday night, when suddenly …" she subtitled the post.

The full six-minute clip begins with a cartoon-like sound of something falling and crashing as Knox listens from his seat on the floor in his pajamas. "What's that?", Says Robinson. "What is it that the f – k? Oh my God."

"It was scary like that, what was it?" Replied Knox, laughing, peeking into the yard before going out to investigate. "It looks like a meteorite," says Robinson.

A space soundtrack begins to play as she approaches a steaming, shiny purple tablet with the words "Knox-Robinson's Coalescence".

Robinson also shared a behind-the-scenes look at how he managed to create his surprise.

The couple moved in together in August 2016, according to the Daily mail.

Knox was previously engaged to the musician Colin Sutherland as confirmed by the Seattle weather in February 2015.

The criminal justice activist was sentenced to 26 years in prison after the discovery of Kercher's death in their shared apartment while Knox was studying abroad in Perugia (Italy) in 2009. Knox had been found guilty of falsification, defamation, sexual abuse and murder ex boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, sentenced to 25 years in prison.

A court of appeal declared the former couple not guilty in 2011. They were retried and convicted in 2014. In March 2015, the Supreme Court of Cassation – the highest court in Italy – ruled that the murder case was unfounded.
