Amazon has emerged as a bidder for Fox's 22 regional sports networks that Disney has to cede as a condition of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox, according to a CNBC report.
Amazon has been increasingly active in the sports field as it expands its video and entertainment activities. The retail giant has been the location of the NFL's "Thursday Night Football" since 2017.
Fox's 22 RSNs have been valued at between $ 20 billion and $ 22 billion. One of the major assets of the group, the New York network Yes, could well return to the Yankees of New York, who still own 20% of the chain. The team would have the first right to buy it back under the sales agreement with Fox in 2012.
CNBC announced that the Yankees had joined private equity giant Blackstone in a bid to recover the chain that hosts the Yankees, the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA and the football club Major League Soccer in New York.
Other candidates for the Fox Chase include Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tegna, as well as private equity firms Apollo and KKR, according to CNBC.
A representative for Amazon could not be contacted immediately for comment.
