Amazon has finally found its HQ2 – and its HQ3.
The company will split its second headquarters project between two cities, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times reported on Monday.
These lucky cities will apparently be New York and Arlington, Virginia, according to the Times. The report relates specifically to Long Island City in Queens and Crystal City in Arlington.
This is a bit of the curve. On the website created during the first announcement of the project, Amazon stated that the goal of HQ2 was to create "a platform equal to our current Seattle campus".

With two sites currently dividing the promised investment of $ 5 billion and 50,000 jobs, Amazon's initial promise sounds hollow. Neither one nor the other of these sites will be comparable to Seattle, where Amazon claims today to have more than 40,000 employees and made a $ 3.7 billion capital investment.
Effectively, this means that Amazon will not really have a second seat, as some critics claim from the beginning.
This may be due to the fact that Amazon is sensitive to criticisms that no municipality could absorb the considerable impact of Amazon's HQ as proposed. Divide it in two might remove some objections from local leaders, but it would also remove some of the project's luster.
Less potential disadvantage in this case also means less potential benefit. New York and Arlington apparently have Amazon, but not Q2. Nobody will do it.
