Amazon's timing could not be worse, just in front of Black Friday. But the e-commerce titan admitted to inadvertently leaking e-mail addresses and names of some customers due to a technical error, and sending e-mails to those customers as a precaution.
Nevertheless, Amazon insists that there was no data breach on its website or computer system.
In a statement provided by email to USA TODAY, a spokesman for the company said, "We solved the problem and informed customers that could have been impacted."
These clients were told that they did not have to change their passwords or take any other action.

Amazon has not revealed how many people have been affected.
Although Amazon has tried to reassure the legions of buyers who will be settling on its sites during the holidays, the episode has set off alarm bells with Andy Norton, director of intelligence against threats at a network security provider based on artificial intelligence, Lastline.
"Amazon should advise clients to exercise great caution and diligence when opening their mail, and should emphasize the risks of phishing," Norton said in a statement. "The fact that they indicate" the parties involved "(in the note sent by the company to the customers) suggests that the data was well disclosed to a known entity that was contained."
Norton added that before the rush of holiday shopping, "it creates confusion and discomfort, and creates more questions than answers, whereas he should have done the opposite."
