Amazon will split QG2 between two cities, says source at WSJ

Amazon will divide its new headquarters, dubbed HQ2, between two cities, a Wall Street Journal source said.

@SullyCNBC: Teleconferencing and other meetings have debated educational aspects to ensure that Amazon has the necessary manpower. Sources say the decision is "close" and it will probably be NoVa or Austin (or a division between the two)

Sullivan also tweeted Monday that "the people I'm talking to believe that a break between two cities is more and more likely."

The current headquarters of Amazon in Seattle has exploded, resulting in congestion and increased housing costs. Local officials and residents of many finalist cities have expressed concern that similar issues will occur each time Amazon moves.

The decision to split its seat in two was partly due to these concerns, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unnamed source. Amazon has not yet chosen both cities, according to the newspaper.

Amazon did not immediately return a request for comment from CNBC.
