VANCOUVER, Washington (AP) – An Amber alert was issued in California for a 4-year-old girl from Vancouver, Washington State, who, according to police, was abducted by her un-detained mother.

According to KATU-TV, 4-year-old Aranza Ochoa Lopez has been in foster care since 2017, after being removed from her mother's home. The authorities think that they could be directed to Mexico.

Aranza was visiting court-supervised Thursday with her mother, Esmeralda Lopez, when police said she had been kidnapped.

Vancouver police said she was not contacted for several hours after the disappearance of Lopez and her daughter. We do not know how Lopez escaped.

The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert on Saturday.

KATU News asked Vancouver police why an Amber alert was issued several days after the girl's disappearance. They did not immediately answer.

Lopez was last seen driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt with Washington's "BLK 1552" plates.
