VANCOUVER, Wash. – An Amber alert was issued in California for the 4-year-old Vancouver girl who, according to police, was abducted by her mother, who does not have custody of the child. Authorities think she could take the girl to Mexico.

Aranza Ochoa Lopez, aged 4, has been placed in foster care since 2017 after being removed from her mother's home.

Aranza was visiting the Vancouver Mall Thursday afternoon with her mother, Esmeralda Lopez, when police announced that she had been kidnapped.

Vancouver police said they had not been contacted for several hours after the disappearance of Lopez and his daughter. At this point, it's hard to know how Lopez managed to escape the supervised visit with the girl.

The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber alert on Saturday, while authorities thought Lopez might attempt to bring the girl to Mexico.

Lopez was last seen driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt with Washington's "BLK 1552" plates.

The police fear for the safety of the child, based on the background of his mother.

Aranza was last seen wearing a dark blue long-sleeved shirt with a bulldog on the front, pink pants and a pair of "Paw Patrol" shoes.

Her mother, Esmeralda, was last seen wearing a red and white striped football shirt. The authorities say that she is also the suspect in a case of kidnapping and robbery in Vancouver.

If you see one, call 911 immediately.

KATU News contacted the Vancouver police to ask why an Amber alert had been issued several days after the girl's disappearance. We have not heard from the spokesman of the agency yet.
