A teenage girl from South Carolina is in the new cloud after American Airlines has fulfilled her wish in honor of her 17th birthday.
During a special birthday party at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, the airline inducted Shantell "Princess" Pooser as a flight attendant on Saturday, becoming their first hostess air with special needs and a terminal illness.
Pooser has Down syndrome and fights a series of airway defects, his mother, Deanna Miller Berry, told about WIS10. "They are called laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia and tracheobronchial malacia."
Pooser's condition, which obstructs more than 87% of her airways, forces the teenager and her mother to frequently visit the Cincinnati Children's Hospital. It's there that his love of flying is born.
"So far, we have completed more than 57 flights. That also includes connecting flights, "said Berry at the exit." She saw the flight attendant and she was like: "Mom, I want to be flight attendant."
Dressed in an American Airlines uniform, Pooser went to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport for his first day of work Saturday with his own crew, his proud friends and his family.
Berry described her daughter's birthday party as "a dream come true".
USA TODAY has contacted American Airlines for comments.
