We gave him a B +
The last moments of last week American horror story The appearance of the coven in YASS KWEEN may have been there, but this week a new type of witchcraft is on the menu – in an elite boarding school for talented young men aspiring to rule the world of witches. We now know why Cordelia Goode and her sisters came to save the day.
At first, we resume where we left off immediately after resuscitation.
"Be lifted and released from an identity spell at the same time!" Myrtle Snow laughs, friendly, and that's how we learn that Coco and Mallory were both former Miss Robichaux students, delighted before the apocalypse for not remembering their cravings for witchcraft. (Dinah is the exception here, apparently, but she is totally marginalized, aside from a quick onset in the cold.) The women were rekindled to fight Michael Langdon for the dominance of the New World. But is Langdon a witch? Or – ask the obvious question that is also the title of the episode – Could it be … Satan?
In truth, I do not know why we ask this question, because Langdon is very clearly Satan or at least Satan-adjacent at most one degree. But no matter, run these title credits.
And then, back to a time before the end of the world, to the clandestine school that was once an institution for aspiring warlocks. (The comparisons between Harry Potter are inevitable, but it's definitely a school for, uh, not the greatest wizard.) The first time we see these guys doing magic, they stand in a circle chanting around a bunch of green fragments of CGI that they manage, thanks to the power of their combined abilities, to levitate and turn into … a ball .. Wow, slow applause, guys. "Super impressed.)
The teachers in charge are a group of wizards dressed in black and various bastards, a cast of stars composed of Ryan Murphy favorites, including Billy Porter, Cheyenne Jackson and BD Wong (which I personally cast in this universe as stars of their own series of Netflix niches, Queer Eye for the guy Snape. Waiting for your call, Hollywood.) The men have a busy job training sorcerers, but they are also waiting for the arrival of an "alpha" prophet, who will eventually break the glass ceiling that prevents male wizards from to reign. (Note: Is it still a glass ceiling if you keep men from going in? Or is the ceiling made of something else, like a hamburger or hair back?)
To this end, warlocks have found something promising: a video of a police interrogation that abruptly ends with the interrogating policeman who levitates and then breaks all the bones before his head n '. explodes Scanners-style. And the boy who was questioned? A young and fresh Langdon – who, until recently, was raised by Mead 1.0, a human woman with a trio of dead husbands in her rearview mirror, a sanctuary dedicated to the Dark Lord in her breakfast nook and large projects for his demonic foster son. (FYI: Still no sign of Constance Langdon, but I hear she will come in episode 6.) When Ariel Warlock's Grand Chancellor found Langdon out of his prison cell, Mead watched with joy: Was it part of a plan? – and a month later, the last student warlock is in front of the jury of the school, his skills being put to the test. Divination, teleportation and weather control are a kid's game for him. Clearly, she's an excellent witch!
Or – all together, now! – Would it be Satan?
Unfortunately, warlocks do not ask this question. they are simply thrilled that their talented wife will be able to pass the Seven Wonders test and oust Cordelia Goode as Supreme. So, they summon the witches of New Orleans (keep your eyes open for Flashback Mallory, showing remarkable powers in a floral witchcraft class). The following is a sneaky encounter between wizards and the clan, who refuse to take men's demands seriously. (The quote from the money: "Testosterone is a known inhibitor! It prevents access to the ethereal realm!") Sorcerers accuse Cordelia of being a braggart and having abandoned Queenie all his life in the purgatory of the hotel Cortez, double ouch; Cordelia, hurt, explains that she tried to rescue Queenie but she could not do it, because the hotel is under the control of the devil Ding-Dang and that its powers were useless inside. And if it sounds like an installation for Langdon, who is also the devil ding-dang in the literal sense, move to hell to save the missing sisters of the coven dramatically?
Well yes, of course.
While witches and wizards argue, Langdon recovers Queenie in Cortez (everyone greets Evan Peters who looks like a devilish Clark Gable!) And, for good measure, also captures Madison Montgomery in her personal hell as a daughter of stock in the K Mart of the afterlife. And when the witches of Miss Robichaux are about to disappear, they discover the trio waiting: Queenie and Madison bright and pretty black, and Michael Langdon smug as hell. Cordelia sees them and fainted. It could be the heat. It could be the shock. Or it could be … well, you know.
