An 18-month-old boy found alone in a Easton shopping car

The authorities are investigating after an 18-month-old boy was found alone in a basket outside a Target store in Easton around 1 pm. Saturday, the police said.

"The child was not injured," Easton police said in a statement. He was taken to the Good Samaritan Brockton Hospital for evaluation.

Witnesses told police they saw the boy with two men and two women inside Target, the police said. A surveillance video shows the four people leaving the scene in a Toyota SUV carrying Maine license plates.

A man called the police around 14:07 and said he had "accidentally left the child in Target," police said.

The State Department of Childhood and Family is investigating the incident, said DCF spokesperson Andrea Grossman in an email.
