COPENHAGEN, Denmark – His name evokes old Nordic stories of heroic deeds. That's exactly what Saga did this summer when she fell on a sword before the Vikings in a lake in southern Sweden.

Saga Vanecek, 8, was helping her father with his boat in Lake Vidostern when she stepped on a 34-inch sword in a wooden and leather holster. It is believed that the sword is about 1500 years old.

Mikael Nordstrom of the Jonkoping County Local Museum said Friday that the girl's discovery had prompted others to search for long-lost treasures in a drought-prone lake.

A pin between 300 and 400 AD was finally found.

Nordstrom said the archaeologists were trying to understand why the objects were there. For sacrificial purposes is a suggestion.
