A Boeing 737-800 descended into a lagoon off Chuuk International Airport in Micronesia.

Images shared on social networks showed the Air Niugini plane from Papua New Guinea in shallow waters off the coast.

Passengers can be seen being picked up in small boats.

The details are still unclear, but Papua New Guinea air investigation authorities told the BBC that no case of serious injury had been reported.

The aircraft was apparently flying from Pohnpei Island in Micronesia to Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, and stopped en route to Weno Island, Micronesia.

The cause of the incident is not yet known, but local media reported that he had gone off the track trying to land.

An official from PNG's aeronautical authorities said investigators were preparing to fly to Micronesia.
