An alleged conspiracy to falsely accuse a special advocate of sexual misconduct referred to the FBI

An alleged plot to charge sexual misconduct against special advocate Robert Mueller has been passed on to federal investigators, a spokesman for the special advocate said Tuesday.

"When we learned last week that charges had been given to women about the special advocate, we immediately referred the case to the FBI for investigation," said Peter Carr, spokesperson for the special advocate in a statement.

According to several reports, a woman received $ 20,000 to make false accusations of sexual misconduct and harassment at work against Robert Mueller. She reportedly contacted several journalists in recent weeks, claiming that she had worked with Mueller in a law firm in the 1970s.

The woman claims that the calls she received came from a man who would have represented the known far-right plot peddler, Jack Burkman, according to an article in The Atlantic.

"All the allegations that I've paid someone for whom he's talking about it are completely false," Burkman told ABC News in a statement sent via email.

Burkman recently claimed on social media, without any evidence, that harmful information would soon be provided to Mueller.

Some of the reporters contacted by the woman apparently did not speak to her on the phone, but only by email, and difficulties were encountered in confirming her identity.

Nevertheless, in these written submissions, the woman stated that she was seldom in touch with Mueller when she was working with him years ago in a law firm and that he did not have any contact with him. was never inappropriate.

ABC News has not been able to independently verify the existence of the woman who made these allegations.

A second woman – a Vermont law professor – revealed on Twitter that she had received an unsolicited email earlier this month in which she was seeking information about her meetings with Mueller and offered her compensation for his time. She told MSNBC on Tuesday that she found it "really scary" and that she did not know Mueller at all.

The reports were reportedly leaked to several journalists, including investigative journalist Ronan Farrow, who told major stories involving prominent men accused of sexual harassment.

Burkman told ABC News Tuesday that he thought someone was trying to mess him up and that he had never paid or offered to pay a woman to make allegations against Mueller.

The FBI declined to comment and referred the reporters to the statement of the Bureau of the Special Council.
