A study says that a diet consisting of fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread, low-fat cheese, olive oil and moderate amounts of red wine can you help live longer

The study, published in the Journal of Internal Medicine, showed that adherence to an anti-inflammatory diet was associated with a lower risk of dying from any cause, cardiovascular causes, and cancer.

The study conducted by researchers from Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland covered 68,273 Swedish men and women aged 45-83, followed for 16 years.

Participants who had closely followed an anti-inflammatory diet had a risk of all-cause mortality that was 18% lower than those on a lower diet.

According to the researchers, they also had a 20% lower cardiovascular risk and a 13% lower cancer mortality risk.

"Our analysis of the dose-response relationship has shown that even partial adherence to the anti-inflammatory diet can be beneficial to health," said Joanna Kaluza, an associate professor at the University of Life Sciences in Warsaw.

Smokers who followed the diet enjoyed even greater benefits compared to smokers who did not follow the diet.

According to the researchers, anti-inflammatory foods consist of fruits and vegetables, tea, coffee, whole grain bread, breakfast cereals, low-fat cheese, cooking oil, and more. olive and canola, nuts, chocolate and moderate amounts of red wine and beer.

Pro-inflammatory foods include unprocessed and processed red meat, organ meats, potato chips and soft drinks, they said. – PTI
