He added that the government had "carefully examined and evaluated" the documents made available to him and that he was convinced that an "extraordinary and unprecedented situation" had occurred, demanding that the government exercise the powers conferred on it by Section 4 (2) of the DPSE Act, which has allowed it to shorten the term of office of the Director of the CBI.
"This has been done on an interim basis and will continue until the CVC completes its investigation of all the issues that have given rise to the extraordinary and unprecedented situation that is currently in effect and until the CVC and / or the Indian Government make an appropriate decision in accordance with the law regarding the measures to be adopted accordingly, "the statement said.
On August 24, the then special director, Asthana, made allegations of corruption against Verma in a complaint to the government, which had been forwarded to the CVC.
The CVC had asked the IWC to send the files of the cases listed in Asthana's complaint to it.
"Various possibilities have been offered for the production of such recordings and after several adjournments, although CBI assured the Commission on 24 September 2018 to provide the recordings within three weeks."
