An Indiana bus driver is suspected of having let students drive a vehicle

A bus driver from Indiana was arrested on Friday accused of allowing three teenagers to drive his bus, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Joandrea McAtee, 27, was arrested by the Porter County Sheriff's Office and charged with gross negligence to a dependent after she allowed three students aged 11, 13 and 17 to drive her car.

Videos posted on Twitter showing the incident would have become viral, reported WBBM.

Jeff Biggs, deputy director of the sheriff's department, said in a statement that a parent from Boone Grove had contacted the school's resource manager, as McAtee reportedly let students drive his bus. According to the statement, McAtee allegedly allowed three students to drive their bus over short distances as they dropped out after school around 3 pm Thursday.

McAtee was immediately relieved of duty, Biggs said.

"The students and parents who immediately presented this information should be commended for doing exactly what we teach, namely seeing, saying something," Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds said in a prepared statement.
