A baggage handler working on an American Airlines flight while he was apparently intoxicated sat asleep Saturday in the luggage hold of a Boeing 737-800 and S & H Flew to Chicago.

The employee was discovered when the plane arrived at the boarding gate in Chicago, according to a statement from American Airlines.

The porter was not injured during the one hour flight. The cargo hold is heated and pressurized, according to American Airlines.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the media that the officer, who was questioned by the police, said he was intoxicated and fell asleep. He was sent back to Kansas City and no charges were laid, according to WGN9.

The Porter is a Piedmont Airlines employee who worked on the American Airlines AA363 flight. The employee inadvertently fell asleep in the cargo hold, which was not loaded with goods on board this flight.

The plane left the door at 5:52 and took off at 6:07.

The flight, which had 80 passengers and six crew members, arrived at Chicago O'Hare Airport at 07:09 and headed for the door.

"Our top priority is to ensure the well-being of Piedmont employees," said American Airlines. "He did not ask for medical care upon his arrival in Chicago and we are grateful to him for not having sustained any injuries."

American Airlines has declared "very concerned about this serious situation and we are reviewing what happened with our colleagues from Piedmont and Kansas City"
