Spider Man for the PlayStation 4 is a game that deserves to be played, even for someone who knows only vaguely the famous series of comics and his six films. If it's you, here's a handy guide to the characters you need to know to get the most out of the Insomniac Web Adventure.
Before you begin, a warning. All the characters listed below appear in Spider Man for PlayStation 4 in one form or another. They will not necessarily be the same as their counterparts in comics or movies – the game has its own continuity – but they will be there. We only talk about those who are in comics and movies here, so do not worry about spoiling the plot of the game. But if you prefer not to know that variants of these characters even appear in the game , stop reading now.
The spider-men
Peter Parker – A friendly neighbor of the spider since 1962
Bitten by a radioactive 'insect' in 1962 Fantasy fantasy # 15, Peter Parker, a high school student in New York, has gained speed, strength, agility and climbing ability. Helped by his genius intelligence and fueled by the death of his uncle Ben in the hands of a criminal, Peter became the incredible, spectacular and sometimes sensational Spider-Man.
Peter has gone through a difficult time in the last 56 years. He went through high school and college. He was a photojournalist, scientist and billionaire businessman. Although she is not a mutant, Spider-Man played the role of director of the Jean Gray School for Higher Education (formerly known as Professor X's school) to explode every two years ). He married his darling boyhood and then defeated that marriage in an agreement with the devil.
He made bad choices, perhaps because almost every man he admires becomes a super villain. Oh, and his parents, who left him with his aunt May and his uncle Ben at a very young age, were secret agents murdered during a mission. He is very damn, Peter Parker, but we love him.

Miles Morales – The Ultimate Spider Man
Meanwhile, in the Ultimate Universe, an alternative reality created in 2000 to tell reinvented stories of popular Marvel Comics heroes, Peter Parker, younger and more daring, also made his swing. But he was not young enough and nervous enough. Enter the afro-Latin teenager Miles Morales. Bitten by a bio-engineered spider without knowing it smuggling out of Oscorp by his criminal uncle, Miles acquires all the powers of Spider-Man plus the ability to shoot directed energy (his "Venom Strike"). ") And to hide.
Miles made his comic debut in 2011 Ultimate Fallout # 4, following the "death" of Peter Parker's ultimate version in the hands of the green goblin. Initially frightened by his abilities, Parker's sacrifice inspires Miles to try his hand at fighting crime.
Due to his popularity with comics audiences, Miles became a permanent resident of the main Marvel Universe (Earth-616) after 2015 Secret Wars crossover event. As Peter Parker takes on his global superhero, Miles becomes the friendly neighborhood of Spider-Man in New York. The big screens of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: towards the spider, a computer animation film, will be released in cinemas on December 14th.
First appearance: Ultimate Fallout # 4
The amazing friends of Spider-Man
We extend the definition of friends here, but most of the time, the following characters play a supporting role in the life of Peter and Miles
Aunt May – Spider-Man's mother
Peter Parker's foster mother, Aunt May, has enthusiastically nurtured her nephew since her parents dropped her at his door and fell into oblivion. She is the mother that all superheroes should have: benevolence, understanding and for the most part, unaware that her nephew has been fighting crime in pajamas since her husband, Ben, was shot down inadvertently.
In comics, Aunt May has always been described as a frail elderly woman, often in poor health. In the film world of Marvel, it is interpreted by Marisa Tomei, who is neither fragile nor in poor health.
First appearance: Amazing Fantasy # 15
Mary Jane Watson – The girl next door
Mary Jane Watson was not supposed to be the love of Peter Parker's life. It was supposed to be a character named Gwen Stacy. But the mysterious redhead next door turned out to be much more interesting than Gwen, so the young blonde died in the hands of the green goblin, and Mary Jane became Peter's main pressure. As Stan Lee said in an interview about the Parker / Watson marriage that appeared in Spider-Man's comics in 1999: "We wanted Gwen to be the heroine of the book, but no matter how we write it Mary Jane always seemed more interesting. ! "
She was a role model and an actress, exactly the kind of professions that a 1960s female character had. Recently, she moved to the world, after serving as Executive Director of Tony Stark, a fact that Peter did not take seriously.
And although their marriage was canceled by Mephisto, Mary Jane and Peter are getting closer to comics.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 25 (complete revelation in The Amazing Spider-Man # 42)
Yuri Watanabe – Sidekick of Spider-Cop
Yuri Watanabe, captain of the New York Police Department, was one of Spider-Man's allies. In comics, she is the fourth character to take over the torch of Wraith, a vigilante who terrorizes violent criminals like Mr. Negative and Tombstone. It is a relatively recent addition to Spider verse, but plays an important role in the PS4 video game.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 600
J Jonah Jameson – I guess he's one of his friends
J Jonah Jameson is one of the most iconic characters in the history of comics. Once the grumpy boss of the Daily Bugle, his constant requests for Spider-Man photos and his smear campaign against the masked vigilante are legendary.
Jonah's obsession with Spider-Man led him to create one of the deadliest enemies of the hero Scorpion (in Amazing Spider-Man # 20), which eventually led Jameson to quit the Bugle. But do not worry too much about the old JJ. He has since served as Mayor of New York City and now runs his own cable channel.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 1
Silver Sable – The Merc Consummate
Silver Sable, aka Silver Sablinova, is a woman who takes her name seriously. His hair is silver. His outfit is silver. His lipstick is silver. We get it, she likes money.
Sable is also an accomplished mercenary, well versed in hand-to-hand combat, knives, firearms, explosives and other dangerous things. She often saw her group of mercenaries, the Wild Pack. In the early 90s, she even had her own comic, Silver Sable & The Wild Pack, which lasted 35 issues.
As a mercenary, Sable's goals and goals depend on who pays for the job. Most of the time, she is Spider-Man's ally, although there have been cases where her clients have opposed her to the webslinger.
First appearance: The amazing spider-man # 265
Black Cat – Totally not Catwoman, but kind of Catwoman
Felicia Hardy's fondness for the flight, the feline name and costume and her relationship with Spider-Man drew attention to Batman's former fiancée, Catwoman, but Selina Kyle was not the inspiration of the Marvel character. Creator Marv Wolfman created the Black Cat as an enemy of Spider-Woman. When he was reassigned to Spider Manshe followed with.
Felicia is another character who has changed a lot over the years. She's been a hardcore villain, an anti-hero, the boyfriend and the lover of Spider-Man. She had feline and bad luck abilities. Right now, in comics, she's just a very talented thief who has the knack of getting involved with Peter Parker's business.
First appearance: the amazing spider man # 179
Jefferson Davis – Prospective Agent for S.H.I.E.L.D.
The father of Miles Morales, aka Ultimate Spider-Man, Jefferson Davis led a troubled life in the ultimate universe. Disgusted by the criminal activities of his brother Aaron (AKA Prowler), Jefferson worked undercover with Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. to slaughter the Kingpin. As a result of this incident, Jefferson saw himself offered an official position within the Fury organization but declined, not wanting to be part of this world.
Jefferson became an NYPD officer, married Rio Morales and both had a son, Miles, who eventually became Spider-Man. Like any member of the Spider-Man family, Jefferson was often at the mercy of villains. He hugged with Hydra and participated in the War of Venom, which resulted in the death of his wife. So yes, things were difficult for Jefferson.
That is to say until Ultimate Spider-Man is part of Earth-616. Now that Rio is alive, Jefferson knows that his son is Spider-Man and, to keep an eye on Miles, he has joined the S.H.I.E.L.D version of this universe.
First appearance: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Vol 2 # 1
Dr. Morgan Michaels – It's a life (vampire)
Does not the name of Dr. Morgan Michaels tell you anything? What about his other name, Dr. Michael Morbius? Morbius, the living vampire? He is one of the most famous supernatural characters of Marvel. Morbius does not only have the powers of a vampire, he is also a talented biochemist. It is the total package.
Morbius is another character that could go both ways, nasty or ally. I'd rather have him as a friend, and I'm sued Peter too.
First appearance: the amazing man spider # 101
The enemies of Spider-Man
As we enter the costumed monsters that act as the scourge of Peter Parker's existence, regardless of the continuity in which they are, I must reiterate that the fact that a character is on this list does not mean you could see a poster or hear a reference. You will see when you play the game.
Doctor Octopus – Otto Octavius
An incredibly talented scientist whom Peter Parker admired, Otto Octavius went crazy and became a super villain.
Pompous and arrogant at fault, Octavius was a brilliant engineer and inventor who designed a set of fantastic metal arms to aid him in his job as a nuclear physicist. When an abnormal radiation accident fused his arm harness to his body and allowed him to control his arms with his mind, Octavius turned to a life of crime, taking the name of Dr. Octopus.
Over the decades, Doc Ock has become one of Spider-Man's most dangerous enemies, using his brilliant wit and technical skill to defeat Peter on numerous occasions. His most notable triumph? When he changed his mind with Peter Parker, he trapped the young man in his own dying body and took the character of the superior spider-man. As bizarre as it sounds, it was an exceptional series of comics.
Having succumbed to multiple occasions, Doc is currently in top form, fighting against a pesky residue of Peter Parker's personality that keeps him performing noble acts.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 3
The Green Goblin – Norman Osborn
An incredibly talented scientist whom Peter Parker admired, Norman Osborn went crazy and became a super villain.
Osborn is one of the biggest jolts of the Marvel Universe. Even before an experimental serum explodes on his face, increasing his strength and intelligence but making him dangerously crazy, he was not a nice guy. A workaholic, Osborn neglected his family and invested in his business, Oscorp Industries, always seeking more power and control.
As a green goblin (and recently a red goblin), Osborn was one of Spider-Man's biggest enemies. He is responsible for one of Peter Parker's most traumatic moments, the death of his girlfriend Gwen Stacy. It was later revealed that Norman and Gwen had a one-night stand, leading to the birth of twin children, because Spider Man is a soap opera in the soul.
Since then, Norman has become one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe. He runs his own S.H.I.E.L.D. (H.A.M.M.E.R.) and played the role of leader of the Dark Avengers, wearing red, white and blue armor and calling themselves Iron Patriot. Such a job.
First appearance: Amazing Spider-Man # 14
The lizard
An incredibly talented scientist whom Peter Parker admired, Curt Conners went crazy and became a super-villain.
All Conners wanted to do was use his mastery of genetic biology to push back the arm he had lost by serving as a surgeon in the US military. While his experimental treatment brought back the limb, he also turned it into a humanoid reptile creature.
The lizard is one of the most tragic enemies of Spider-Man. It was a really nice guy before making a mistake and turning into a wild one.
First appearance: the incredible man spider # 6
Mr. Negative – Martin Li
Martin Li is not really Martin Li. As revealed in Dark Reign: Mr. Negative # 3He is an anonymous member of the crew of a Chinese slavery ship who took the name of a dead slave when the ship crashed off New York. The man now known as Martin Li has then devoted his life to amassing a fortune and helping the less fortunate. He founded F.E.A.S.T.T. Project (food, emergency assistance, shelter and training), helping many of the city's poor and oppressed with the help of volunteers like Peter Parker's Aunt May.
But there is another side to Martin Li. Captured by Maggia (the Marvel mafia) and subjected to an experimental drug by Dr. Simon Marshall (whose experimental drugs also created Cloak and Dagger), Li became two men different: the altruistic philanthropist and Mr. Negative boss.
As Mr. Negative, Li has the power to charge weapons with dark electrical energy, control the spirits, heal with a touch and move his body between normal and negative states. While he is a new villain of Spider-Man (he is only 10 years old!), Mr. Negative has managed to play a leading role in the game PlayStation 4. You go, Martin.
First appearance: the amazing Spider-Man # 546
Mysterio – Quentin Beck
Mysterio, with his exceptional helmet, is a villain of Spider-Man. A former special effects artist, hypnotist and talented illusionist, Quentin Beck decided that his skills would make him an excellent super-villain, so he did it. Good plan!
Mysterio is the villain that comic book writers (and video game designers) turn to when they want to do something thrilling and amazing. Between his illusions and his use of hallucinogenic substances, he is always good for a moment of rest.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 13
The Kingpin – Wilson Fisk
Wilson Fisk is a man who knows what he wants and knows how to get it. What he wants is power, and no one, Spider-Man, Daredevil, or the damned Avengers, will stand in his giant, muscular position.
As a very tall person, mostly bald and somewhat chubby, I've always admired Fisk.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 50
Shocker – Herman Schultz
Herman Schultz is just a guy with a gift to invent and a need for more money than he can get legally.
Perhaps the most sensitive enemy of Spider-Man, he knows he's just a guy with a pair of gloves that emit vibrating air explosions. He is more likely to give up when he is cornered. He knows his place.
First appearance: The amazing spider-man # 46
Electro – Max Dillon
Oh yes, the iconic Electro, with his flash mask and his simple story. Max Dillon was an electrician who had the power to control the electricity during an abnormal electrical accident. He decided to use his powers for evil and brought Peter Parker to find new ways to isolate his suit since.
Electro is currently dead in the comic continuity of Marvel, replaced by a woman named Francine Frye. Poor Max.
First appearance: the incredible man spider # 9
Scorpion – Mac Gargan
Remember when J Jonah Jameson accidentally created one of Spider-Man's deadliest enemies? It's this guy. JJ initially hired Mac Gargan as a private investigator to find out how Peter Parker obtained such amazing Spider-Man images. When that failed, JJ asked Gargan to submit to an experimental process that would give him the powers of a scorpion. The process gave her superhuman strength, agility, speed, stamina, the ability to hang on to most surfaces and a precognitive "scorpion sense" that warns her of danger. It also made him crazy, because that is how science works.
Since then, Gargan has played a leading role in the Spider-Man team – especially as Scorpion, but he has also spent time wearing the Venom symbiote. It's a form of extraterrestrial life that Spider-Man picked up from the original. Secret Wars mini-series, and he tried to get back to Peter Parker to reject him when he started turning him badly. It's complicated. In summary, Gargan and the symbiont served as "Amazing Spider-Man" in Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers, which is simply crazy.
First impression: The amazing spider-man # 19
Rhino – Alexei Sytsevich
The rhinoceros is the embodiment of brute force. Alexei Sytsevich uses his superhuman strength, durability and endurance, usually for the highest bidder. With his habit of getting into things and wondering about himself, he is a big villain in video games.
First appearance: The amazing spider-man # 41
The vulture – Adrian Toomes
As a young teenager, I've always been tickled by the appearance of Adrian Toomes, a balding, gangly old man, who ran into the sky in an electromagnetic harness of his own design. It was a funny duck, certainly not the kind of super-naughty that a young teenager would aspire to be. In other words, if the young teenagers wanted to be villains, which I certainly did not do. I wanted to fly, but being old and frail seemed like a price too high to pay.
Fun fact: Adrian Toomes briefly used the name Falcon, thinking that the real Falcon did not use it at the time. Cheeky.
First appearance: the amazing man spider # 2
Taskmaster – Anthony Masters
One of my favorite characters in comics, Taskmaster uses the power of "photographic reflexes" to copy and anticipate the movements of everyone he meets. He is an expert martial artist, a swordsman, a shield bearer, an archer – whatever he sees, he can do it. What an extraordinary power to have.
When he's not a scary voyeur absorbing the movements of other heroes and villains, Taskmaster can often be found using his abilities to train the next generation of hired thugs. Someone has to do it and he is that guy.
First appearance: The Avengers # 195
Headstone – Lonnie Thompson Lincoln
Lonnie Thompson is a brutal thug. Teased relentlessly growing up in Harlem as an albino-american, Lincoln eventually grew taller and stronger than the bullies who bothered him. He mastered the art of intimidation by placing his teeth on sharp points to enhance his scary appearance. As he was a 6'7 "murderer was not enough, exposure to experimental gas gave Lincoln a superhuman strength, speed and stamina.
Tombstone was one of the main villains of Web of Spider-Man, as I was getting into comics as a teenager and it scared me.
First appearance: Web of Spider-Man # 36
Screwball: the first super-villain in the world
Screwball commits crimes, films them and uploads them to a website in order to make money. Really.
First appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man # 559
These are a lot of Spider-Man characters in one game. The fun part is knowing how each of them fits. You have surprises when Spider Man PS4 arrives on September 7th.
