An officer from Centerville dies of an injury in the wreck of a motorcycle

CENTERVILLE – A police officer from Centerville who was injured in a motorcycle accident two weeks ago died Tuesday as a result of his injuries.

On September 23, officer Jason Read was on leave at Syracuse on Antelope Drive, near 2200 West, when he was struck by a car, according to a police statement from Centerville.

"Agent Read has been in the hospital since the crash and was progressing in his recovery." Early this morning, Agent Read died suddenly while he was still in the hospital, "said the statement released Tuesday.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of one of my officers," said Chief Paul Child. "Our Centerville police family is in mourning right now because of the loss of our brother and friend in blue."

Read began his career with the Centerville Police Department in 2005. He was a Kindergarten to Grade 9 officer for three years, as well as a patrol officer and training officer in the field at the time of his death.

"Read Officer had an incredible memory for names, faces, license plate numbers and other important information that made him a very effective officer." Officer Read received many awards and decorations and had a positive influence on many of the lives of people that he served the community as a "police officer", according to the Centerville police.

Read is survived by his wife and three children.

Read is the second Utah law enforcement official who died this week from injuries sustained in a workplace accident.

Lieutenant Brian Locke, county sheriff of Cache County, was killed in a road accident this weekend after being stuck under his van. The highly respected Locke was a 32-year veteran of the department.
