Mike Lopez, Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Officer, shut down all lanes of Highway 101 heading south near the Melrose Avenue exit in Hollywood on Sunday afternoon.
The shooting took place around 15:40. with the suspects coming out of the vehicle and fleeing, according to Lopez. A perimeter was immediately set up and the investigation completely stopped the traffic and closed all the lanes of Highway 101 southbound.
No Los Angeles police officer was injured by Lopez.
At approximately 4:45 pm, a suspect was in a nearby apartment complex and was quickly placed in police custody. The suspect appeared to be bleeding from the head due to a touch injury, but the injury did not seem to be life-threatening.
LAPD tweeted that the suspect had come out of the pursuit vehicle, a black Range Rover, with a handgun, and that an officer involved in the shooting had occurred. No officer was injured by LAPD.
LAPD also confirmed that the client had sustained life-threatening injuries and stated that the suspect had been located with the help of a K9 unit. In addition, a firearm was recovered by Los Angeles police.
As traffic was blocked, several vehicles were leaving 101 Freeway via Santa Monica Boulevard.
At 6:34 pm, a SigAlert was extended to keep all lanes on the 101 Freeway heading south closed for another two hours.
