A few weeks ago, young Californian polymathist Anderson. Paak launched the new album Oxnard. It's not his best job, but it's a good excuse to make him do things on TV. He was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last week and last night he toured another television comedy institution, The daily show.
At last night's show, Paak went into a strange situation. For reasons I do not quite understand – maybe Trevor Noah has lost his voice? Maybe it was a pre-existing comedy? – Trevor Noah did not speak. Instead, Noah remained silent, while comedian and correspondent Desi Lydic claimed to ask him questions. Paak seemed to have no idea what to do, but at least Lydic, more than Noah, was trying to ask amusing questions.
The interview may have been a clutter of clusters, but not the performance. By playing with his band The Free Nationals and exposing his strange super power to play drums while singing, Paa burst out Oxnard song "Anywhere", which sounds better live than on disc. Check out the interview and the performance below.
Oxnard is out now on Aftermath.
