Andrew Dice Clay wants to leave the film industry on a positive note – preferably one sung by Lady Gaga in "A Star Is Born".
"I do not know if I want to be on any set," said Clay, 61, at Page Six.
The comedy legend has experienced an interim revival in recent years with critically acclaimed appearances in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine," Martin Scorsese's "Vinyl," and now the third remake of the 1937 classic directed by Bradley Cooper.
"I have a good record between Woody Allen, Scorsese, Warner Bros. and this larger-than-life film," he said.
Clay was particularly impressed by Cooper's performance, especially since it was the first time the Oscar-nominated actor had appeared behind a camera.
"He added to what this story was. Being a director for the first time in a big budget movie with Warner Bros. and being as discreet and cool as on the set is amazing, "he said. "Having to be that character who looks nothing like Bradley – he loved it so much that even when he realized he would sound like the character of Jackson Maine – and he looked like Sam Elliott, because they're playing the brothers in the movie. Bradley would shout a direction and I would say, "Is this Sam?" But it was he who remained in the character. His musical ability was incredible. "
The Brooklyn artist is also in love with Mother Monster, in part because she "is so entrenched, a real girl from New York" and partly because she worked so hard on the film, which was her first role main.
"She's so absorbed. It was a love story so black that she was in tears of the scenes she had to do, "he said. "She fills big shoes with [Barbra] Streisand and Judy Garland. She is not just a pop star. Lady Gaga is really a singer. For me, his voice resembles that of Liza Minnelli. It's great to be friends with her because she's just an amazing talent. On top of that, her role in the movie – it's a scary place when we did not do something like that, and she crushed it. "
Clay wants to focus on projects a little closer to his heart as an interpreter, including his stand-up, his tours and his podcast (or as he calls it, his "Dicecast"), and out elegantly in what he believes to be his pic cinema, but insists that show business will never grow old for him (no more than his mancrush on Cooper).
"Sometimes I can not believe what I can do," he laments. "I can be in a comedy club or on a set with Cooper, Gaga. When I was on tour, he sent me a selfie of him and Clint Eastwood. It never gets old. I never became a jaded guy in show business who said, "It does not affect me. It affects me! It's King Clint Eastwood! Why is my new boyfriend sitting with Clint Eastwood in a house somewhere? The excitement of the entertainment world has never aged and never will be. "
