With an Emmy Award for Jesus Christ SuperstarThree legends of music have achieved EGOT status, joining an exclusive club after winning Grammys, Oscars and Tonys.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, musical theater titans, as well as John Legend have crossed the 9th September mark as NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar in concert won an Emmy Creative Arts for outstanding variety (Live). The win was also awarded to other executive producers, Marc Platt (the first lead producer to win several Emmys for a live music show), Craig Zadan (passed away last month at age 69), Neil Meron, Mike Jackson, Ty Stiklorius and Alex Rudzinski, and co-executive producer Javier Winnik.
Earlier in the evening, the special series won awards for outstanding technical guidelines, sound mixing, production design, and lighting direction.

Lloyd Webber and Rice shared a Tony Award victory in 1980 for the Evita; in 1997, they won an Oscar for the song "You Must Love Me", written for the film adaptation of the same musical. Lloyd Webber also won Tonys for cats, The ghost of the Opera (as a producer) and Sunset Boulevard. Rice's additional rewards include a Tony for Aida and Oscars for The Lion King"Can you feel love tonight" and Aladdin"A Whole New World" (which also earned him a Grammy). The two also shared a Grammy victory for the Evita distribution album.
"I am honored that the TV Academy has recognized this wonderful production of Super starLloyd Webber said in a statement. "As I celebrate this award with my colleagues – especially my dear friend Tim Rice – we would not be here without the advice of Craig Zadan, whose recent death keeps us crying."
The singer-songwriter Legend has a total of ten Grammy Awards, as well as an Oscar for the song "Glory" of Selma. In 2017, he won a Tony Award as a producer on the revival of the Manhattan Theater Club jitney (he was re-appointed this year as a contributor to the Bob sponge Goal).
The legend played in the title role alongside nominees Tony Bareilles as Mary Magdalene and Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas, with the three winners for their performances.
The 70th Annual Emmy Awards Ceremony will be broadcast live on NBC on September 17th.
