616 days ago, quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, Andrew Luck, played for the last time in a regular season football game. Luck has escaped the 2017 season while recovering from the operation on the labrum of his throwing shoulder. Earlier this week, during a conversation with NFL.com, Luck detailed a previously secret wound to his right shoulder that complicated his recovery or made him understand his luck.
Luck confirmed that during the winter of 2016, he was in a snowboard accident in Colorado that caused him a sprained knee in his shoulder. It was the dead-season after the breakup tear against the Titans in 2015, the offseason after he tore his kidney on the ground. And yes, he was always snowboarding. No, he will not do it again.
Luck told NFL.com that he did not think that the AC joint was an impediment to his recovery after surgery. "I've seen more doctors than I can count on two hands in the last two or three years," the spokesman said. "And the consensus – unanimous – is that the CA is not a problem, nor has it had any effect.The labrum is a problem."
According to NFL.com, Luck immediately informed the Colts of the injury caused by the snowboarding, so this revelation is not news to the team. However, this is a major news for an NFL community that saw Luck sit all the previous season wondering if and when he would come back from his operation. Luck's insistence that the sprained AC joint does not affect its recovery should not stifle speculation and that speculation will only grow if it does not return to its level of play now that he's coming back to the field.
The Colts do not have to worry, though, because Luck will not be doing snowboarding again. "I'm not doing snowboarding anymore," he said. "And that was after the initial injury."
