A synagogue in Brooklyn was vandalized with anti-Semitic epithets, resulting in the cancellation of a political event on Thursday and the opening of a police investigation less than a week after the start of the hostilities. the deadliest attack against the Jewish community in American history.

Graffiti bearing the title "Kill all Jews" was discovered in the temple of the Union around 8 pm. Thursday, the police said.

Broad City star Ilana Glazer was scheduled to interview journalist Amy Goodman and New York State Senate candidates Andrew Gounardes and Jim Gaughran, the New York Post reported. But members of the audience were quickly sent home.

Mayor of New York Bill of Blasio called it "the lowest kind of hate" and condemned it as a hate crime.

"The kids are going to school here – it's the vilest form of hate," he tweeted. "Union Temple is stronger than that, Brooklyn is stronger than that, we will fight anti-Semitism of all the fibers of our being."

Union Temple declined to comment, citing the ongoing police investigation.

Less than a week ago, an armed man who killed 11 worshipers in the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh shouted "All Jews must die" during the execution of the massacre.

Since the shooting, other cases of anti-Semitic graffiti have occurred in the country.

In Brooklyn Heights, similar graffiti was discovered Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. Southern California police are investigating anti-Semitic graffiti sprayed on a synagogue.

According to Anti-Defamation League, a group that tracks and fights anti-Semitism, there have been at least 1,986 incidents of this type motivated by anti-Jewish biases – including physical assault, vandalism, and attacks against anti-Semitism. Jewish institutions – in 2017, a 57% increase in incidents during the previous year.
