Senator Ali Ndume said that the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, will be visiting President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.
Ndume, chair of the Senate Committee on the Establishment and Public Service, made the statement at the forum of the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Abuja.
He said that the All Progressive Congress (APC) was not disturbed by the emergence of Mr. Atiku, adding that he was in no way a threat to the party.
According to him, the documents are there for the Nigerians to judge.
"The next election will be a round table with Atiku.
"We were worried when PDP had to organize its primaries, but when Atiku appeared, we were happy for so many reasons.
"Atiku has been our vice president for eight years and one of the most powerful vice presidents we have ever had and we know what he has done.
"He was under former President Obasanjo and, in his book" Under My Watch, "he voluntarily described the presidential candidate.
"We all know where we are and where we are now. If they had introduced a new person, a person that Nigerians do not know, it could have been a threat, but with Atiku, it's impossible.
"Let us analyze it. The North West is the origin of the president and we are betting on our highest votes. If you go to the North West, you will realize that its popularity is unprecedented.
"So, if you go to the Northeast, Buhari is a moral obligation," he said.
He expressed his disappointment at the fact that Atiku, despite arriving from the north-east of the country, did not send him relief materials for people displaced by Boko Haram.
"We have to vote for him (Buhari) because we know where we are with the PDP government in my state, including my local government, my city and even my house were taken over by Boko Haram.
"It is the government of President Muhammadu Buhari that has saved the situation and now, my people are back in our local government.
"Those who tried to succeed or compete with him were already there.
"Atiku was the vice president and one of the richest Nigerians of all time, but I do not remember that Atiku even offered a sack of rice to our suffering people in Borno and he wants to be our president .
"For me, this election is between Nigerians and corrupt Nigerians.
"The antecedents of Atiku are known. The total amount of money from him, from Saraki and others is what they got from politics, from people's money, "he said.
Fearing that the election campaign would be tainted by violence, Ndume said the APC would not be part of it.
He added that President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the party's national president, had urged loyal parties to flee violence, make appeals and focus on issues.
"Yesterday (Sunday), when our presidential candidate and the president of the country launched the" Next Level ", he expressly stated that we should continue the campaign decently.
"That means no names are called or insults, but we focus on issues and at our convention, our president made it clear that our campaign was going to be different.
"This is the first time the APC government has campaigned for the second term, so we want to campaign on issues and ideas.
"We do not want to campaign on personalities and we do not want to be involved in name calling, which PDP is desperately trying to do.
"We will not join the problems with them. They can only fight, "he said.
