Ariana Grande goes on stage for the first time since the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and her breakup with ex-fiancé Pete Davidson. The pop star sang "The Wizard and I" for NBC's "Very Wicked Halloween" special, aired on NBC on Monday.
Grande joined Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, members of the original cast of "Wicked", for a special concert celebrating the 15th anniversary of the hit Broadway show. The singer "Dangerous Woman" wore a green bustier top and matching green lipstick during her performance. Adam Lambert, Ledisi and Pentatonix also participated in the special.
"Wicked" has been one of Broadway's biggest hits to date. It took less than 13 years to reach the billion dollar and remains the second Broadway show after "The Lion King," according to The Wrap.
Grande recorded the performance just days after the separation of her fiancé, Pete Davidson. In an Instagram story, she admitted that she had nearly retired from work. She wrote the day of the recording: "I can not believe that I almost let my anxiety spoil this today!" But later, she wrote, "honored to be included in this celebration of the 15 years of my favorite musical of all time – I would not miss it for the entire universe # wicked15" .
The last performance of Grande had taken place at the funeral of Aretha Franklin at the end of August, during which she had sung "Natural Woman". In mid-October, reports surfaced that Grande and Davidson separated, which Davidson confirmed later. Last weekend, the singer left the Barbara Berlanti Heroes Fundraising Gala at F ** k Cancer's inaugural fundraising gala just hours before the news of the split. The Great Manager, Scooter Braun, said at the event: "Someone whom I am very close to was supposed to come to sing for you today, and because of that. she lived, she could not be here today, and as long as I was frustrated, being the manager, my wife, being who she is always, just looked at me and she said : "She needs this time."
In September, Grande also left the planned appearance for "Saturday Night Live". Executive producer Lorne Michaels said it was for "emotional reasons". At the time, Grande had hinted that she was living through a difficult time tweeting: "Can I have a day of work? Just one. Pls."
The ex-boyfriend of Grande, the rapper Mac Miller, was found dead on September 7th. Later, Grande said she regretted not being able to save the "most beautiful soul" who had been for so long his "dearest friend".
