One of Mac Miller's closest friends speaks about the late rapper's fight against addiction, and how his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande was "incredibly involved and helpful" to make him sober and healthy .
On Monday, Shane Powers talked about Miller's death on his podcast, The Shane Show – explaining that when Miller and Grande went out together, she had a positive influence on him.
"They were very in love and I must say that she was amazing when he started thinking," said Powers. "She gave him a good gift. There could be no one more favorable to his sobriety than Ariana. I saw that, I was in the corner, I took phone calls with her. "How can I help? What am I doing? This little girl was incredibly involved and helpful in being healthy. "
"Whether he's addicted or not, the way Mac partyed was not healthy," added Powers. "[And] there was no one in his life more willing to go to the wall for him when he was sober. It was an incredibly stabilizing force in her life and she was deeply helpful and effective in keeping Mac sober and helping her become sober. She was all about him in good health. Period."

Big, 25, was forced to close her comments on Instagram after Miller's death after the trolls accused her of her alleged overdose. She and Miller separated at the end of April after two years of dating. Grande is currently engaged to Pete Davidson.
Miller, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick, was pronounced dead Friday at 11:51 am at his studio studio in California, confirmed the medical department of the Los Angeles Medical Examiner in a statement to PEOPLE. He was 26 years old.
A cause of death remains to be determined, but one source told PEOPLE that Miller had had a cardiac arrest after appearing to be suffering from a drug overdose.
