After staying silent about the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller a week ago after a drug overdose, Ariana Grande wrote a heartbreaking tribute to her "dearest friend" on Instagram. "I loved the day I met when I was nineteen and I will always do it," wrote Grande. "I can not believe you're not here anymore. I really can not wrap it up.
"You were my dearest friend," she continued. "I'm sorry I can not fix or relieve your pain. I really wanted. The kindest and sweetest soul with demons that he has ever deserved. I hope you are ok now. Rest."
Grande's message came with a touching video of Miller enjoying a quiet dinner with her. The rapper wears a sweatshirt "Everything Will Be Ok"; he seems happy and at ease. While Grande films him trying to tell a story, he laughs and tries to get her arrested.
This is the first time that Grande directly addresses Miller's death in public. She had already posted a black and white photo of the rapper on Instagram without any caption.
Miller was found dead at his home last Friday at the age of 26. An official cause of death has not yet been determined. "He was a bright light in this world for his family, his friends and his fans," said the rapper's family in a statement. "Thank you for your prayers, please respect our privacy.
After Miller's death, many of his hip-hop colleagues honored him on Twitter or at his shows – Drake, Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, J. Cole and more.
