Keegan Brewer, the North Texas kick kicker, was almost all the way to a touchdown early on Saturday against Arkansas.

The Razorbacks players never saw him coming because they thought Brewer was reporting a nice catch. Except that he did not do it. No whistle was done.

Catching the ball at the North Texas 10-yard line, Brewer grabbed the ball and began to walk casually – as if he were performing a nice attack. Then, after the Arkansas players overtook him, he leaned toward the end zone, leaving his opponents time to recover from the parody.

This touch gave the Mean Green a 14-0 lead.

There is no NCAA rule allowing what Brewer did, as sneaky as it is. There are rules against signaling a fair catch and then running with the ball (it's a game delay). The key, however, is that the return team must emit a just catch signal, which Brewer has not done. Arkansas players were waiting for him.

It is unclear whether Brewer played the game intuitively on his own or whether the coaches asked him to do so.
