Ashanti Grinage dies of flu and pneumonia in Garland, Texas

GARLAND, Texas (KTRK) –

A family is mourning the death of her 4 year old daughter who died of flu and pneumonia in Garland, Texas.

Ashtani Grinage is the first infant-related death of the flu season in Dallas County. She showed symptoms last Tuesday, went to the emergency and started taking medication.

Thursday, she is dead.

By the time her father, Martel Grinage, arrived at the hospital, the doctors were trying to bring her back to life.

"I said:" Maybe if she hears my voice … "I know she's getting up." I pray, I pray, because I believe in God. I'm just waiting for her to wake up, "Grinage said.

Pneumonia was blamed for his death. The infection sometimes develops during or after the flu.

Grinage says the doctors did not check for Ashanti 's infection the first time they went to the emergency room.

He says that in hindsight, he would have liked to be able to ask for it.

"I'm mad at myself, I'm angry at everyone, I'm angry at the hospital, I'm angry at God, I can not lie to you," said Grin.

Grinage says that he tells the story of his daughter hoping to help another family.

"You see, I have the impression of having failed because I am not yet 30 years old and I am about to bury my little girl", has declared Grinage. "It was my best friend, she was only four years old, but she was my best friend."
