At least three of the 44 people injured in a bus accident in northern Mississippi, near Memphis, Tennessee, are in serious condition in hospitals in the area.
Spokesperson Ayoka Pond said that 19 passengers had been transported from the accident site near Byhalia to the DeSoto Memorial Baptist Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi, and that three of them were in serious condition. She says seven other patients were taken to the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville in the suburbs of Memphis, Tennessee.
Spokesman Mary Alice Taylor, spokeswoman, also transported 18 passengers to the Olive Branch of the Methodist Hospital in this Mississippi city. The hospital can not immediately provide the conditions for any of the wounded.

County coroner Josh Pounders said two people died in the accident where Interstate 269 and Interstate 22 met. He said the wounded were taken to hospitals in the area, some of them in critical condition.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation reports that Interstate 269 was closed in both directions at the interchange.
