As part of his trip to the Carolinas to study the damage caused by the Florence storm, President Donald Trump visited Wednesday along River Drive in New Bern, a low-lying neighborhood of brick houses and planks flooded by the Neuse .

"We help you a lot," Trump told a resident.

"Do you want to see my house? It's there, "said another resident, showing a badly damaged yellow house across the street.

Trump crossed the street to a small brick house, where he stopped to greet an older man in the t-shirt. Behind the house, a large yacht was stranded and wrecked against the wooden bridge.

He looked at the yacht, saying, "Is this your boat?" The owner said no. Trump turned around and replied with a smile: "At least you have a good boat with this case.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the owner had told him that his insurance company would not pay the damage to his house.

"We are going to find out," he said. "We will find the name of the insurance company."

"I think it's amazing what we see," added the president. "This boat just came here."

During his trip, Trump pledged the full support and finances of the federal government to support the states struck by Florence.

Minutes after arriving in North Carolina to investigate the damage caused by the storm, Trump promised "100%" to support Governor Roy Cooper. Trump pointed out twice that even though the sky was clear and "beautiful", the surrounding state was still exposed to floods.

The president said the region was preparing for "two difficult weeks", but promised to send "a lot of money to the region".

"We need it, and we have it, and we will implement it, and there will be nothing left to lose," Trump said.
