VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE – Team Vandenberg had a successful launch of the satellite SAOCOM 1A on SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex-4E on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 7:21 pm and the first landing ground at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The launch was postponed on Saturday to Sunday to provide the ideal launch conditions for the public.
Many San Luis Obispo County residents were able to see the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch and the red glow it as it broke free from the atmosphere. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base on Sunday evening, Oct. 7.
The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has been an Argentinian SAOCOM 1A satellite into orbit and was successful in its mission.
Local residents may have witnessed the display of the separation and staging of the rocket that caused a stir in other communities and social media.
Bystanders could have seen the first stage of the Falcon 9 returning to Vandenberg AFB, including multiple engine burns associated with the landing.
The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket had its first landing on the LZ-4 pad at Vandenberg Air Force Base per officials.
This was the 30th time SpaceX landed a rocket and the successful 17th SpaceX mission this year.
Previously SpaceX landed rockets that were launched from California on an autonomous barge stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
