SEATTLE (AP) – The Oakland Athletics have earned their first playoff appearance since 2014, then beat the Seattle Mariners 7-3 on Monday night, behind Khris Davis' 46th home race.

Jonathan Lucroy, Jed Lowrie and Matt Chapman also made the trip to the A, which is no worse than a place in wild card.

Oakland was eliminated when Tampa Bay was eliminated with a 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees. The As then won the match after Chapman broke a 3-3 tie with a two-point seventh-place finish with Shawn Armstrong (0-1).

Having finished three times in a row at Al West, the A's (95-62) are four and a half games behind Houston, leader of the AL West. They must follow the Yankees by a game and a half to get the advantage on the field if they meet during a wild card match.

Robinson Cano and Dee Gordon competed for the Mariners.

The Athletics will make their fourth playoff appearance in the last seven seasons, led by Bob Melvin, and their 27th overall. The A lost to Kansas City 9-8 in 12 innings in the 2014 game, the last time Oakland reached the playoffs.

The last time the A's reached the World Series, it was in 1990, losing in four games against Cincinnati. Oakland won the 1989 World Series after the Bay Area earthquake, sweeping San Francisco.

YANKEES 4, RAYS 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Aaron Hicks is left hamstring injured on the front row in the Yankees' win, another worry for New York ahead of next week's game.

Hicks, who had injured his left ankle just before the double, left Monday's game with a left hamstring tightening.
