ATLANTA – Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said right-handed Mike Foltynewicz would start the fourth game of the National League Division series on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The announcement was made after Atlanta's 6-5 win on Sunday, to avoid eliminations for at least another day. The Dodgers hold a 2-1 lead in the best run of five.
"We are going with Folty," said Snitker. "He made two innings, 50 shots [in Game 1]. It is good. It's just a workout. Honestly, I would rather start it than leave it behind someone else. "
Foltynewicz started the first game of the series in Los Angeles, but struggled to follow his orders and left after just two innings. Foltynewicz allowed four runs, three walks and two homers in the race, scoring 50 shots.
However, Foltynewicz was the best starter in Atlanta in the regular season, his best as a major player. He was 13-10 with a 2.85 silver and 202 strikeouts – all the best in his career. He also participated in his first all-star game.
"He is eager to go and is looking forward to taking the ball, and it's still an elimination," Snitker said. "So we will try to do what we have best."
Dodgers coach Dave Roberts did not announce his name for the fourth game at the post-game press conference, although southpaw Rich Hill should be approved.
If the Braves win Monday at SunTrust Park, the fifth game will be held Wednesday in Los Angeles. The winner of the series will qualify for the NL championship series to face the Milwaukee Brewers, who completed a three-game sweep in the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
