Hyun-Jin Ryu scored seven dominating innings, Max Muncy scored a three-run goal and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-0 in their first Division Division game on Thursday night.
Selected as a surprising starter in Game 1 against left-handed Clayton Kershaw, Ryu delivered his first start in the playoffs since 2014. The South Korean conceded four singles – both with outs – took out eight and did not win. scored no goal.
Ryu, 31, missed a half-season with a sprained groin and returned to the withdrawal point on August 15 to register a 1.88 ERA in 52 innings and two-thirds. Sandy Koufax, a great Dodger player, was among the people who cheered Ryu as he headed for the dugout after his last throw.
The Dodgers set franchise and national league records totaling 235 homeruns in the regular season. Three others were selected to start their series. The defending NHL champions were beaten 6-5 by Atlanta, but the Braves only got singles.
The second match of the best of five games will take place Friday at Dodger Stadium. Kershaw will be in Los Angeles against Anibal Sanchez.
The Braves lost eight consecutive playoff series players. They did not win the first game since 2001, when they swept Houston into the LNDS.
Rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. hit two goals and went from 0 to 4 while the Baby Braves were laundered. It was the first appearance of the Atlanta playoffs since 2013, when they lost to the Dodgers in four games.
Joc Pederson's first shot in the bottom of the first rocked Mike Foltynewicz in his playoff debut.

Enrique Hernandez shot a solo shot with two outs in the sixth quarter against Brad Brach. Coach David Freese added a sacrificial volley in the eighth.
Ryu gave one of every two singles to Freddie Freeman in the first.
After that, he pulled out 12 consecutive hitterers before a pair of singles in two among Ender Inciarte and former Dodger Charlie Culberson in fifth. Puig scored Kurt Suzuki's strike on the right field to end the run. The Braves did not advance a runner after the second goal in the match.
Ryu gave Ozzie Albies another single in seventh place. With his supporters waving blue towels and a crowd of 50,947 people chanting his name, Ryu prompted Inciarte to unleash a decisive attack to end the inning.
Defensemen Caleb Ferguson, Alex Wood and Dylan Floro completed the combined six batters.
