ATLANTA INTERSTATE STANDOFF: Here's how to get around the traffic delays since the stalemate on the I-75

MARIETTA, Ga. – Traffic is blocked for miles at the end of a dead end on the I-75 SB.

Mark Arum from channel 2 monitoring the situation from the beginning, it began at about 9:30 am. Police blocked all traffic lanes on Windy Hill Road as it surrounded a car with an armed driver inside. Police claim that the man is a suspect in the armed robbery of a Walmart on Cobb Parkway.

At around 11 am, police placed the suspect inside the vehicle in police custody.

They are now working to reopen all lanes as quickly as possible, but traffic is still stuck at least 10 miles away.

All traffic was diverted from I-285 until about 10:55 am, when police also blocked all tracks leading to I-285. After the capture of the suspect, the I-285 lanes were reopened.

the NW Express Lanes will remain southbound throughout this situation. The GDOT said that it would usually close the lanes at 11 am to begin the northward turnaround, but that it will leave the lanes going south until the end of the situation. Drivers can also use Cobb Parkway / Highway 41 and Atlanta Road to work around backups.
