Attack of the Chinese Consulate in Karachi: Two policemen killed and an injured guard

Shots and gunshots were heard at the Chinese consulate in Karachi, with unconfirmed reports of hostages being taken.

Gunman attacked the consulate in the coastal city of southern Pakistan, security sources said.

Two police officers were killed and security personnel injured, a local doctor said.

Smoke images and videos posted on social media, apparently from the previous explosion, show clouds of black smoke rising in the air.

An explosion and gunshots rang out in the opulent Clifton neighborhood, where the consulate is located, as well as those of several other countries.

"Two attackers have entered the visa section of the consulate, the diplomats are safe," a senior police official told Reuters.

Geo television said the police had surrounded the attackers inside the consulate.

Neighboring China, Pakistan's closest ally and main benefactor, is spending billions of dollars on infrastructure projects as part of its larger Belt an Road initiative.
